Schedule Change Policy

At Mountain View High School, we strive to align students with courses that complement their Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP). Students are encouraged to make thoughtful choices in selecting courses for the upcoming school year, taking into consideration input from Parent(s)/Guardian(s), teachers, and counselors. Once courses are selected, students are expected to commit to and successfully complete those courses. This ensures a focused and productive academic journey aligned with their educational goals.

At Mountain View High School, the master schedule is built based upon student requests. After the master schedule has been finalized, it can be very difficult to accommodate student schedule change requests.  With this in mind, Mountain View High School strives to limit schedule change requests to the following situations:

  • A class is needed for graduation

  • There is a hole in the current schedule

  • A course has already been taken

It is important for students to maintain all required classes, and any reduction in classes must be approved by the counselor or grade level administrator. Grade-specific enrollment requirements are as follows:

  • 9th and 10th grade students must enroll in 8 classes each semester.
  • 11th grade students must enroll in 7 classes each semester.
  • 12th grade students must enroll in 6 classes each semester.

Please note that schedule changes that significantly disrupt a student's schedule will not be approved.

Any schedule changes not adhering to the MVHS Schedule Change Policy will result in a drop/fail notation and be recorded as an F on the student’s transcript. Thank you for understanding these guidelines as we strive to support each student's academic success.
