Family and Consumer Science

Welcome

Mountain View High School is proud to offer a comprehensive Family and Consumer Sciences program that prepares students for a variety of career fields and real life!  There is a pathway for every interest including Visual Arts & Design, Hospitality and Food Production, and Education and Human Services.

The Visual Arts and Design pathway at MVHS provides students with a unique opportunity to explore their creativity and develop their skills in fashion and interior design. With a curriculum that is designed to provide hands-on experience, students learn the technical and artistic skills necessary to succeed in the design industry as well as the fundamentals of design.

The Hospitality and Food Production pathway teaches students about food preparation, nutrition, and food service. Students learn how to cook a variety of dishes, from simple family meals to complex multi-course dinners. They also learn about food safety, sanitation, and kitchen management. In addition, students develop their customer service skills and gain experience working in a restaurant or catering environment.

The Education and Human Services pathway prepares students for careers in education, social work, and counseling as well as prepares students to be responsible young adults in high school and after graduation. Students learn about child development, healthy relationships, finance, and wellness.

Students can participate in FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), which is a student-led organization that focuses on leadership development and career preparation. Through FCCLA students can engage at the chapter, district, state, and even national level.

Throughout the FCS program, students develop important life skills, such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Whether students choose to pursue further education or enter the workforce directly, they will be equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.
