Band
 
Concert/Marching Band (Freshmen and Sophomores) (6052/6053)
Symphonic/Marching Band (Juniors and Seniors) (6054/6055)
Open to all woodwind, brass, and percussion players. No audition necessary. Ensemble placement will be determined for each concert. Along with our scheduled concerts we perform at multiple festivals and community events throughout the year. Members of the Concert and Symphonic Bands are also members of the Lion Pride Marching Band. The marching band performs at all home football games, select festivals, and parades. Students who participate in 2 semesters of marching band will receive .5 credits towards the fitness requirement to graduate.
 
Jazz Ensemble (6006/6007)
Open to all instrumental students. Members must also be enrolled in one of the bands or orchestras. Provides students the chance to learn improvisational skills and perform music from various genres including rock, swing, pop, and latin. In addition to its regular concerts, the Jazz Ensemble performs at the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival each year.
 
 
Choir
 
Treble Choir (6132/6133)
Open to all treble voices (soprano/alto).  No audition necessary.  We will perform at all of the scheduled concerts throughout the year along with festivals, competitions and private events.  Literature ranges from contemporary, renaissance and musical theatre to classical, pop and multicultural!
 
Tenor/Bass Choir (6136/6137)
Open to all tenor/bass voices. We also attend festivals along with scheduled concerts.  Literature ranges from contemporary, renaissance and musical theatre to classical, pop and multicultural!
 
Intermediate Treble Choir (6130-6131)
Open to treble voices grades 9-12 by audition only. We will perform at all of the scheduled concerts along with festivals, competitions and private events. Literature ranges from contemporary, renaissance and musical theatre to classical, pop and multicultural!
 
Chamber Singers (6022/6023)
Open to all voices in 10th-12th grade by audition only.  Members will learn advanced literature that ranges from classical to jazz/pop. We will participate in all scheduled concerts along with the Metro State Choral Celebration and other festivals and competitions. 
 
Show/Jazz Choir (6020/6021)
Open to all voices in 10th-12th grade by audition only. Members will explore various styles of jazz and popular music (including musical theatre, jazz standards, contemporary pop/rock styles). We will participate in all scheduled concerts along with the UNC Jazz Festival.
 
 
Orchestra
 
String Orchestra (non-auditioned) (6024/6025)
Chamber Orchestra (by audition only) (6026/6027)
Open to all string players. We will perform at all of the scheduled concerts and select festivals throughout the year. The orchestras host the MVHS Orchestra Festival each year.
 

Other Opportunities
 
Musical Theatre (6205)
All students involved in the cast, crew, and pit orchestra of the Spring Musical will be enrolled in this class. All rehearsals and meetings will be after school.
 
Musical Theatre Techniques (6029)
Dive deeper into the world of Musical Theatre. Students will study acting basics, musical analysis, language in lyric form, elements of storytelling, character and best performance practices.  Students will choose a song of their own to analyze and perform!
 
Music Ensembles (6042)
Open to all music students. Provides an opportunity for students to explore and perform a variety of music for chamber ensembles (ie. woodwind quintet, brass quintet, percussion ensemble, string quartet, etc.) or even non-traditional ensembles (rock band, mixed ensembles, electronica, etc.). We perform at all regularly scheduled concerts and some community events.
 
Introduction to Piano (6046)
Introduction to Guitar (6044)
Open to all music students. Provides students the opportunity to develop basic skills on either piano or guitar. Students will study solo literature as well as a variety of accompaniment styles and chord reading skills.
 
Music Theory (semester-long) (6009)
AP Music Theory (year-long) (6010/6011)
Music Theory focuses on developing both written and aural (listening) theory skills. Students spend time developing dictation and sight-singing skills as well as mastering concepts around melody, harmony, rhythm, and compositional technique. The AP course offers weighted credit, and many colleges give course credit for students who pass the AP exam in the spring.
 
Music History (4110)
Students study music in it’s social and historical context including representative composers, development of notation, instrument evolution, and major style periods.
